Mijas

Mijas is by area one of Málaga's largest municipalities and has three urban centers and extensive countryside with, among other things, many horse farms and nature parks with extensive hiking trails with magical views. Mijas Pueblo is a charming, typical Andalusian whitewashed village a bit up in the mountains. The village is located at 428 meters above sea level and the highest peak in Mijas at 1.150 meters altitude. Mijas Pueblo is the municipality's historic city center and here you also find the town hall.

La Cala de Mijas is located right on the waterfront and is a genuine village with many restaurants. The original small fishing village is located along the water with cozy alleys and fantastic beach and promenade. In recent years, the village has grown with a number of extensive new productions on the upper side of the coastal road N-340. The result is a varied and dynamic development and an increasing range of services and facilities, which has made La Cala one of the most popular destinations on the entire Costa del Sol. 

Las Lagunas is an urban area connected with Fuengirola and that offers city life with proximity to the sea and the nature.

Mijas has just over 85,000 inhabitants and is the third largest municipality in the province of Málaga. Mijas is a multicultural municipality with a large proportion of resident foreigners, about 36 percent, with over one hundred different nationalities represented.

In Mijas you get an average of 2.920 hours of sunshine per year. You can, for example, choose to enjoy them on one of Mijas beautiful beaches such as La Cala, Cabo Rocoso, Calahonda, El Bombo, El Chaparral and El Faro.

In Mijas there is a lot to see and do. Among other things, water activities such as sailing, surfing and diving. Enjoyable walks along the coastal trail Senda Litoral and hikes in Mija's beautiful mountains with a large selection of routes that suit both adults and children. In Mijas you also find the Aquamijas water park, which is open during the summer months.

There are eleven golf courses in Mijas. One of them is La Cala Golf & Country Club, which is one of the largest golf courses in Europe. Mijas is also thanks to its Hipódromo Costa del Sol, the stage for some of the most important horse events in Spain.

There are several museums in Mijas. At CAC Mijas, Centro de Arte Contemporáneo, you find Pablo Picasso's second largest ceramic collection in the world. Here is also the Museo Histórico-Etnológico.
