Don´t miss November's best excursion
Andalusia is a real treasure trove when it comes to its rich selection of unique, special and wonderful excursion destinations.
Valle del Genal is a natural park in the Serranía de Ronda in the southwest of the province of Málaga. Here you find several charming typically whitewashed small Andalusian villages such as Igualeja, Pujerra, Parauta and Júzcar. It is an absolutely fantastic area to visit all year round, either to walk around and enjoy the food, in one of the villages, or to make real hiking tours. For hiking maps click here

However, the absolute best time to visit Valle del Genal is right now during the month of November. This is when the extensive green chestnut forest is transformed into a colorful copper forest. The leaves begin to turn yellow already in the beginning of November and after a while they turn completely into copper. A spectacle with nature as the artist, which attracts thousands of visitors every year.
Bring a picnic or enjoy an abundant, reasonably priced lunch in one of the local village restaurants. And if you want to fully take advantage of this spectacular season, it is recommended to rent a so-called "casa rural", a country house, to stay a little longer and really explore the surroundings.
The villages of Valle del Genal also have a special event in late October and early November, to celebrate the chestnut's own party, La fiesta de Castaña, with various events such as dance, music and of course with lots of roasted chestnuts.
