Today, Friday 18 March, Málaga's annual film festival Festival de Málaga starts. It will be the 25th edition of the festival, which runs until March 27. The event begins with a special gala for an audience of 3,000 people in the sports arena José María Martín Carpena and this year the red carpet also returns outside the Teatro Cervantes and on Calle Larios after two years of adaptations and restrictions due to the pandemic.
A total of 1,949 productions have been submitted from 53 different countries, of which 185 have been selected. Among them are feature films, short films, documentaries and films with the theme of women's rights. The official selection consists of 21 films, of which 19 are included in the competition, 13 Spanish and 8 Latin American. There will be lots of activities in the city during the week and the biggest threat to a really lovely film party is actually the rain.
The festival this year will be a carbon-neutral event in that the carbon footprint is calculated and compensated for all activities and events arising from the program.
