After two years of sharply reduced travel due to the pandemic, bookings for this year's holiday season have picked up speed again. This is true in many of the countries of the world and not least for the Swedes who obviously long for a change of environment and perhaps especially for sun, heat and salty baths. Spain occupies an unthreatened first place among the Swedes’ favorite destinations according to Vagabond's annual travel barometer and the hottest is Málaga, which tops Momondo's list of the Swedes' most sought after destinations for the summer of 2022. The main reason given is that Spain is perceived as a safe and secure destination in these troubled times.
The Swedes' longing for Spain is also reflected in the housing market. According to the latest statistics from the Spanish registration authority Registradores, as many as 1,225 Swedes bought a home in Spain during the first quarter of the year. This is the highest figure ever in a quarter, since this type of statistic began to be reported in 2013. The report shows that a total of 164,299 properties were sold in Spain between January and March this year, of which just over 13 percent to foreign nationals. Swedes are now in fifth place on the list of nationalities that buy the most homes in Spain. Read more in Sydkusten.
